Walk for Hunger Inspires Smith Students

Walk for Hunger

Update:

Students and staff enjoyed a beautiful spring day to participate in The Walk for Hunger. The students really encompassed our global theme and were able to empower others by giving them the opportunity to provide for their families with the animals and resources from Heifer International. The school collected $1238! There were three classes that raised over $100 each: Mrs. Jenkins’, Ms. Bacharach’s, and Mrs. Huegerich’s classes. Awesome job!

Original Post:

Smith Magnet Elementary is holding a “Walk for Hunger” supporting Heifer International on April 13 in conjunction with our Fun Day activities.

Each grade is collecting money to purchase animals for families in other countries to help end hunger and poverty and care for the Earth. The Walk For Hunger program includes lesson plans, maps and a story to coincide with each region where Heifer has projects.

The students are doing an awesome job and are so excited to decide which animal their grade can give with the money they raise!

After the walking event, students and staff will receive a water bottle and wristband for their participation. Smith thanks the many local donors supporting this global activity including: Lowes Foods, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Costco and Target.

Money can still be collected until the day of the Walk – so join us in making this a successful endeavor!
